PROS

1) Dobermans are known as velcro dogs for a reason. They absolutely are devoted to their families. They want to be with you at all times. You will not have another friend in the world as devoted as a Doberman. If you are going they want to go. They do not care where you are going, they want to be there too.

2) They are gorgeous. Lets be real you would not be considering a Doberman if they were some of the most elegant looking dogs that walk this planet.

3) They deter most bad actors with just their presence. The reality is that someone that wants to do you harm will likely be completely dissuaded just by seeing your Doberman. Their guard dog reputation in media does have its perks.

4) They are extremely intelligent and generally easy to train.

5) They are bred to protect and naturally slip into the role of guardian even without extensive training.

6) They are extremely versatile and can be trained in any direction in most cases from military and law enforcement uses, detection dogs, tracking dogs, service dogs, agility, speed, obedience competitions, protection work, or just great family pets. We have even seen one trained to herd cattle.

7) Compared to many other breeds they are low maintenance in terms of grooming. They will need baths and a quick brushing once in a while but they do not have long coats that need to be brushed or they will become a matted mess or that get dirt stuck in it. And because they love attention most Dobermans actually enjoy bath time because it means they are getting pampered, petted, and all the attention on them.

8) It is our opinion there is no greater companion in every way than a Doberman. They are in tune with their person in a way we have not experienced with any other working breed. This ability to read from your unspoken body language makes them exceptional at service work and guardianship but it also makes then the greatest friend you will ever have.

9) In terms of working dogs they have been the easiest for us working to get along with other animals like cats and chickens. (We still strongly recommend a crate or separate room for smaller pets when you are not home.)
